Vera worked as a waitress and cook for much of her life. Her real enjoyment came in working in the school cafeterias. She loved and was loved by all the students that she came in contact with. She was a great cook. Many youth could be found at her house when her hot homemade bread came out of the oven. Many adults could be found there when her homemade pies came out. Her family was most grateful for her homemade chicken and noodle soup (with homemade noodles) and her cabbage rolls. She was also known for her Rice Crispy Treats and could not make enough, once she learned how they were made. She loved flowers and had a green thumb. She could make flowers come to life and they lasted for years. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Primary president and Young Women's president, serving in Relief Society presidencies, a Cub Scout Leader, and as a Ward Librarian. She met everyone with a hug.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all of her brothers and sisters, Virginia (Dave) Sampson, Lois Ann (Evan) Sweet, Berdell Lee, Don (Colleen) Lee, Donna (Clair) Hughes, Annie (Bud) Hortt, Blackie (LaFaye) Lee, Whitey (Emmarene) Lee, and John (Katie) Lee. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 am at the LDS Stake Center with a viewing from 9:00 until 10:30 am. There will be a viewing on Friday, February 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, also at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Mesquite City Cemetery.
