Forrest was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Whitehall, the son of William Lee and Nellie (Pruitt) Chapman. He married Esther Henderson on May 1, 1946, in Alexis. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1989.
Forrest lived in Keithsburg before moving to Rock Falls in 1948. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was awarded the Purple Heart. Forrest was a member of Zion Full Gospel Church, Prairieville.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia C. Hall and Lorna (Dennis) Hemminger, both of Sterling; one daughter-in-law, Ellen Chapman of Rock Falls; two brothers, Howard Chapman of Dixon and Basil Chapman of Rock Falls; six grandchildren, John-Lee (Jennifer) Hall of Donovan, Forrest D. Chapman III of Pontiac, Tommy (Amanda) Chapman of Wenona, Toby (Crystal) Chapman of Buneeton, Mo., Jason A. Chapman of Rock Falls, and Amy (Randy) Rodriguez of Louisville, Ky.; eight great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; two sons, Forrest D. Chapman Jr., and Kelly L. Chapman; and five brothers.
The family would like to thank Lee County Hospice and Rock Falls American Legion.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Dalmus Meeks of Harvest Time Bible Church officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 to 11;30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to KSB Hospice.
