She leaves to cherish her memory, six children: Floyd Dyer (Melody), James Dyer (Kathy) and Walter Ellenburg all of Springfield, Illinois, William Ellenburg (Lori) of Marthasville, Missouri, Sara Jo Strutton (Tom) of Iberia, Missouri and Edward Orr, Jr. (Becca) of Crocker, Missouri; six siblings: Jim Farley (Susie), Sharon Neil, Donny Farley (Linda) and Joyce Lowe (Dick) all of Springfield, Illinois, Norma Grimmett (Porky) and Janet Bowman of Waverly, Illinois; a grandson she raised: Jamie Scott Ellenburg of Springfield, Missouri; 15 other grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jess and Norvella Farley; three children: Lorraine Dyer, Charles "Chuck" Dyer and George Ellenburg and three brothers: Jess "Junior," Billy and Harold "Dicky" Farley.
Sarah was born January 4, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois. She was the second of ten children born to the union of Sarah Lorraine Norvella (Pope) and Jessie William Farley, Sr. Sarah spent her childhood in the Salisbury, Illinois area.
Sarah worked as a housekeeper at the Downtown Motor Lodge in Springfield, Illinois for a few years before accepting a position with R.W. Harmon as a bus driver for the Springfield School District. Sarah was proud of delivering children safely to and from school, and especially enjoyed all of the special activities road trips with the students over the years. Sarah taught herself to play the acoustic guitar in her younger years. She loved card and dice games, playing Bingo, and spending time with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois. A meal and time of fellowship will follow at the Harvard Park Baptist Church, 2401 S. 9th Street, Springfield. Services are under direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory, Waynesville/St. Robert, Missouri, in association with Staab Funeral Home.
