"The LaFayette Sun" March 30, 1898:

Mrs. Carrie Beall died at her home the 23rd instant. We extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

AND...

April 13, 1898:

We have failed to notice the death of Mrs. Carrie M. Beall, wife of Major Beall, which occurred two weeks ago at her home south of LaFayette. Mrs. Beall was a consistent Christian, and left the savor of a good name. We offer sincere condolence to the bereaved relatives. An obituary will appear later by her pastor, Rev. J. P. Hunter.

AND...

April 20, 1898:

In Memoriam.

On the 23rd day of March, 1898, Sister Carie M. Belle (Beall), wife of Major Belle, died at her home, three miles southeast of LaFayette. She was born February 6, 1845, Chambers County, and was married to Major Belle in September 1862. She joined the Missionary Baptist church when fifteen years of age, and was baptized by Rev. Jefferson Faulkner.

Sister Belle was indeed a true and noble Christian woman, a devoted wife and a faithful and loving mother. She was afflicted for sometime before her death, but bore her sufferings patiently and with Christian fortitude. She talked to her friends freely about dying, and said: "I have not waited until now to make peace with God; I did that long ago."

How much better to make peace with God when we are young and blessed with health and able to do him service, than to wait until we are old and then worship Him because we have no other one to look to for peace, and safety. The love of God should be our constraining motive to serve Him and not the dread approach of death.

Sister Belle leaves a husband and six children, together with a host of friends, and a number of relatives to mourn her death. Her funeral services were conducted at her home, after which she was laid to rest in the family burial ground. To the bereaved family we would say do not grieve unnecessarily for her. She is waiting and watching for you on the other shore.

From "The Boyds of Boyds Tank", 1970, by Frank Ewell Boyd and William Taylor Boyd, pages 72 & 73:

Caroline "Carrie" M. Boyd, the fourth daughter and tenth child of John C. and Caroline Banks Boyd, was born February 6, 1845 in the old Rock House, the original Boyd home at Boyds Tank. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, having been baptized in July, 1860. In September of 1862 she married Major Thaddeus Solon Beall (1832-1903) of Civil War fame. He was a native of Walton County, GA. The Bealls were of Scottish descent. To them were born ten children.

All of the children were born on the Beall Plantation near Lafayette. The Major, Carrie and three children were buried at the homesite. In 1968 the only visible signs of the house and cemetery are old cedar trees, a tangle of wild vines and crepe myrtle bushes. Not a vestige of the house remains. In our search for the old burial plot we consulted an 87-year old negro, Joe Nathan Barrow. He recalled the site of the old Beall house and cemetery, but related that the cemetery was "plowed up" many years ago. A further search by a longtime friend, Darsey Tatum, present owner of the Beall lands, brought to light some evidence of two graves. One was marked with a field stone as a head piece and a plain rectangular shaped stone 14"x4"x1", used as a foot marker. Lottie Alcine Scott (Landrum), the only Beall relative to attend Major Solon Beall's funeral, reports that she believes Major Beall's father and mother, Thaddeus and Mary (Jones) Beall are also buried in this cemetery. According to Beall genealogical data they were living in Chambers County in 1850 and the father died there in 1867, age 88 years. Since Thaddeus Solon Beall married Carrie Boyd in 1862 no doubt they lived with his parents and inherited the Beall plantation after their deaths.
