Edwin's elder sister was Selina Huntington Bakewell who, in 1828 became the second wife of Bishop Alexander Campbell, co-founder of the Disciples of Christ church.
In 1857 Edwin purchased 320 acres at Normal, Illinois from his brother-in-law. He and his wife later gifted a portion of their land to Illinois State Normal University.
Edwin and his wife resided at Normal and Bloomington for many decades. By the date of the 1900 census they were enumerated in the Carbondale household of their daughter, Mrs. Selina (William) Errett.
