He was a farmer and worked as a brakeman on the old Lake Shore railroad. He died in the red brick house which he helped his father (Irad Issac O. Aiken) build 70 years earlier.
He mariried Ann E Winton Aiken abt 1858. They moved to Corunna, Shiawassee, Michigan for 9 years and lived there in 1870 with Sons William Hanford Aiken and Frank Aiken. By 1880 they were back in Amherst. He married his second wife, Lizzie Schmink Aiken in in abt. 1891. Lizzie died in 1923. At the time of his death, both of his sons were still living in Texas; he lived with his stepson Fred Leuszler; and two grandchildren were living in St. Louis, MO. The Grandchildren were Claude F Aiken and Dorothy Adle Aiken Lee
