His father William Chase was a farmer. He purchased land in Bradford Township, Rock County, Wisconsin in 1840 of 80 acres. In 1843 he purchased an addtional 150 acres.
In 1850, the family still resided in Bradford Township, Rock county, Wisconsin. Surviving members at that time:
1. William Chase 46 Father
2. Milton Chase 13 years
3. Mason Chase 11 years
4. Manley Chase 7 years
An older sister, Mary (23) had married in 1848 and lived her life in Janesville Wisconsin.
By 1866 Manley had arrived in New Mexico Territory taking up residence in Cimarron, Colfax county. There he would build up a large enterprise by ranching Cattle and growing the largest Apple orchard in the West. There are dozens of newspaper accounts showing his business success and his travels.
