US Congressman. He worked as a town treasurer, a member of the school committee, a business executive. In 1833, he was one of the founders of the Boston and Portland Railway. A representative to Massachusetts General Court 1835 to 1855 and 1843, he served in the Massachusetts State Senate from 1840 to 1842. The honorable Amos Abbott was one of Andover's leading citizens. He was also a founder of The Boston and Maine Railroad and a director.
