AGED CITIZEN DIES
Friends of Mr. Frank Whatley, of Saint Ellen community, were shocked to learn Thursday that he had passed away at his home at five o'clock a. m.
Funeral services are incomplete as we go to press Thursday afternoon.
His son, Mr. Jimmy Whatley, recently died which perhaps contributed to his sudden going. [The Greene County [MS] Herald, 24 May 1946].

FUNERAL RITES FOR FRANK M. WHATLEY HELD MAY 24, 2 P.M.
Interment In Sweetwater Cemetery Beside Other Members Of Family
Funeral services were held at Sweetwater cemetery, Friday, May 24, at 2 p. m., for Frank M. Whatley aged citizen and resident of Greene county.
"Uncle Frank" was born at Grand Bay, Alabama, January 4, 1865, but had lived in Greene county about fifty-three years. He married Sarah Jane Brewer in 1895, and to this family were born seven children, four girls and three boys.
He suffered a stroke about four years ago from which he never recovered. He died Thursday, May 23, at 5 a. m., making him over eighty-one years of age at his death.
He was a member of Pine Level Baptist church for a number of years, was widely known and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Whatley, Leakesville, Miss., four daughters, Mrs. Lucinda Parker, Springhill, Alabama; Mrs. Ella Stranberg, Leakesville, Miss., Mrs. Lizzie Pierce and Mrs. Vessie Curry, of Mobile, Alabama; two sons, C. C. (Kit) Whatley, Mobile, Alabama, and Ertice Whatley, Waynesboro, Miss. Another son, Jimmy Whatley preceded him three weeks ago. One sister, Mrs. Lura Broodus, Kreole, Miss., (age 83), six grand children and a large number of nephews and neices, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the church by Rev.W. E. Stewart, Hattiesburg, Miss., Rev. Glenn Savell, Mobile, Ala., and his pastor, Rev. M. E. Perry.
Active pall bearers were: Jake Green, Lige Merritt, George Hicks, Jr., Wydman Turner, Vernon Brinkman and Rayford Hodges.
Honorary pall bearers were: J. T. Miller, Dean Turner, Tyra T. Brewer, N. G. Hillman, W. w. Green, George Campbell, and Charley Hodges.
Interment in Sweetwater cemetery with Hulett Funeral Home in charge. [The Greene County [MS] Herald, 31 May 1946].
