George's obituary appeared in the July 21, 1910-edition of The Cedartown Standard newspaper - Our beloved brother G. M. Atkins passed quietly away at his home near Bethel Church, Bartow Co., July 14th. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Smith of Aragon, and Rev. Adams of Taylorsville, in the presence of a large and sorrowful gathering of relatives and friends. May God watch over and guide these dear ones as he has our brother. He was born in DeKalb County June 3rd 1849 and married Mrs. Juliet York of Yorkville. She, together with the following children survive him: Messrs. Manor, Gordon, Joe Atkins of Alabama and Stonewall York of Rockmart, Mesdames Nettie Jones, Abbie Brown [sic-Broom], and Lula Jones of Taylorsville and Callie Heaton and Irene of Alabama. Also, the following brothers and sisters: Rev. James Atkins of Marietta, Miles and Wyatt Atkins of Louisiana, Mesdames George Waddell of Fish, Jack Baldwin of Antioch and Morris of Byrds.
