Chico Enterprise-Record, Friday, October 22, 1993: "Paradise -- A graveside service for Thelma May Vangunda, 77, of Paradise, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Dayton Cemetery. She died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1993, in a Chico hospital. She was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Tulsa, Okla., to Jess and Ruby Meyers Mitchell. When she was 7 years old, she moved to Pocola, Okla. In 1935, she moved to Chico. She relocated to Washington in 1975 and returned to Chico in 1985. She them moved to Paradise in 1990. Survivors include three sons, William of Puyallup, Wash., Jess of Hamilton City and Clarence of Oroville; three daughters, Irma Kemp of Paradise, and Eiola Leahy and Patricia Ince, both of Stirling City; a brother, Leroy Mitchell of Toppenish, Wash.; a sister, Lucille Chapman of Oroville; and 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home in Chico."
