Organized at large November 11, 1864, to January 2, 1865. Ordered to Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory, December 19, 1864. Duty in District of Oregon by Detachments at Fort Vancouver, Fort Klamath, Fort Yamhill, Fort Steilacoom, Fort Dalles, Fort Walla Walla, Colville, Fort Hoskins and Fort Boles, Idaho Territory, covering Boles and Snake River Country and the Owyhee Mines from Indian Raids.

Mustered out July 19, 1867.

"Edwin J. Ackerman of the 1st Oregon Infantry was born in Cincinnati Ohio in 1842. He joined Atlanta Post 92 of the Grand Army of the Republic at Fresno on 17 January 1903, and died at Fresno on 30 December 1904."
