Lewis was born in Juanita, ND, where he was raised and educated. He married Viola Bulyca July of 1942 in Minot, ND. They lived in Velva and lived in the same home until their deaths. Lewis operated his own dirt moving and road construction company. He farmed and raised Charolais cattle and sheep. In 1980, he had the McHenry Co. dirt fill contract for garbage for Velva and surrounding towns.
He is survived by his son Elgin (Jan) McDaniel; and daughter Bonnie Schweyen; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
