BIRTH AND PARENTS
David N (no known middle name, but perhaps Nelson) Bishop was born about 1858 (per calculation in Death Certificate) in Missouri (according to census reports). As of 2021, his parentage remained uncertain (see NOTE).
OCCUPATION
David was a Farm Laborer early in life. In 1910 he owned a farm in Oklahoma. At his time of death, he was a Janitor.
FAMILY
He probably did not have a son, Joseph, in 1879. On all census reports, David reported that he was "single." In error, probably, he was identified as a "widow" in 1933 on his death certificate by an informant who was not an immediate family member. Family narrative in 2020 was that (1) he was Joseph Nelson Bishop's "uncle" and that (2) he mailed Joe a letter when he was close to his death that Joseph read after David's death.
DEATH
David N Bishop died in 1933 in Springfield, Missouri.
RELIGION
Two Obituaries and his Death Certificate stated that he died in a Baptist Hospital. It was calculated that he was a Baptist.
BURIAL
A niece from Oklahoma, Mrs. Josephine Wilson, was a daughter of Sara Elizabeth Bishop Pherigo, who was a daughter Nelson and Tempy Bishop. Josephine assisted with David's burial at Temple Park Cemetery in Springfield. David's estate, according to the cemetery's secretary, purchased his individual gravesite. His letter to his nephew, Joseph, reportedly stated that he willed his estate to "his church."
NOTE:
July 5 1860 Census: absent from household of Nelson Bishop.
1870 Census: If "J M," then present and no parental relationship indexed.
1880 Census: Present, "son."
1933 Certificate of Death: Parents "unknown." No parental Will found as of 2021.
