Mr. Jonathan Carroll was born August 29, 1920, in Daphne, AL as the 12th child to bless the union of the late Deacon John and Sis. Lucinda (Austin) Carroll. He departed this life on February 1, 2011, at Montrose Bay Nursing Home. He attended and graduated from Baldwin County Training School in Daphne. He served in the U.S. Army for several years, and afterwards, spent many years as a merchant seaman, traveling to many countries abroad, and often brought back beautiful souvenirs. After years of living in New York, he returned to Daphne. He united again with Mt. Aid Baptist Church where he participated in Sunday School, Worship Service, the Men's Choir, and as an usher. Bro. Carroll had the knack of cheering you up by telling you something funny to make you laugh-even in his latter days. We will miss that! He was united in marriage to Ola Mae Nesbitt, and to this union, five children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, 7 sisters, 2 sons, and his wife. He is survived by three children: Reverend Rush Carroll (Caroline) of Griffin, GA; De'fonza (Terry) Carroll of Baltimore, MD; and Janice Carroll of New York City; 21 grandchildren, 34 great -grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends. His remains will lie in state on Monday, February 7, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Small's Mortuary, 24336 US Highway 98, Fairhope, AL.
