She was born December 23, 1921 at Soldier Summit, UT, to Mary Alice Phillips and William Thomas Eddy, one of ten children. When Alice was six years old, the family moved to Sacramento, CA, also living in Wyoming for a short period of time. Eventually, they settled in Salt Lake City, UT, where they made their home.
Alice graduated from East High School, and later attended the LDS Business College. During World War II, she was employed at Hill Airfield Base, and worked at the Norden Bombsight facility.
On December 28, 1942, she married Briant K. (Bri) Blanchard in Reno, NV, and they lived in Oakland, CA until Bri was called into the service. After the war, they made their home in Salt Lake City, where their three sons were born.
She worked for the University of Utah for twenty years; initially at the School of Social Work, and then at the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, from which she retired in 1982. After retirement, Alice and Bri joined the Wasatch Wagons RV group, enjoying many outings in their motorhome, and making some wonderful friends. She also enjoyed playing canasta and other card games, golf, fishing, bowling, and watching the Jazz but, most of all, being with her family. She also realized one of her dreams when her son, Scott, took her to Paris to see the sights. She was a member of the Democratic Party.
Alice is survived by her sons Bud (Sherrill), Sandy, UT, and Scott (Patrice) Peachtree City, GA, as well as grandchildren Richard, McKayle, Molly, Jodi, Nicholas, and Sean, and great-grandchildren Rachel and James. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Smith, Washington, UT; sister-in-law, Leora Eddy, Salt Lake City, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her husband, Bri, and son, Bill.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Bud and Sherrill, following a private family interment.
