Served in American Revolution under Captain Findley 1781 from Frankin Co. Pennsylvania. After the war, Jonas came to Ky as a surveyor with his brothers Daniel, Joseph, Japhet, and Abel. He returned to Pennsylvania to marry Sally Smith. They came to Eddyville by waterway, then cross country by oxcart to Hopkins County, Ky where he had claimed a large parcel of land. Possibly one thousand acres. The land where Arcadia Cemetary now stands once was the site where he built the double log house for Sally and where they raised the family. Jonas Jr. lived there when he died and is buried there. When Hamby bought the Land from Grandma Sally for Hamby's Well, Arcadia Cemetery was condemned for burial because of the well below it.
