SPARTA -- Funeral services for Lilburn Earl (Mitch) Mitchell, 76, were held at 8 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell died on Thurs., Aug. 19, 1999, at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1922, in White City, Kan., to the late William A. and Martha Thomas Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was employed by RCA Whirlpool and Douglas Aircraft. He was also owner and operator of Mitch's Auto Parts in Sparta. He served in the Merchant Marines.
His family includes his wife, June Dodd Mitchell of Sparta; three sons, Stan and Wayne Mitchell, both of Sparta, and Steve Mitchell of Knoxville; four sisters, Lorraine Byrd of San Clemente, Calif., Reba Raymaker of Nashville, Jean Roberts of Cookeville, and Bonnie Greene Broadway of Sparta; a brother, William A. (Bill) Mitchell Jr. of Nashville; four grandchildren, Courtney, Ali, Candice and Cameron; and one great-grandchild, Isaac.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James Mitchell.
Doug Benningfield officiated at the services.
