The son of George Robert Edwards and Dorsie M. Byrd, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict where he earned the rank of Corporal and was assigned to Company G, 7th Calvary Regiment - which was part of the Honor Guard. He is survived his wife of 46 years, Eleanor O. Hicks Edwards, a son, Jerry Brian (Elizabeth Harrell) Edwards; two brothers, Robert J. Edwards and William F. Edwards; a sister, Dolores M. Moennich; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard W. Edwards and two sisters, Lorraine Edwards and Vivian Edwards.
