Joseph Smith Hyde was the son of Jacob and Comfort (Hayes) Hyde. Jane (Gillis) Hyde was his 1st wife. They were married July 25, 1842 and she died August 31, 1864. Nancy Barton Derby Campbell Hyde was his 2nd wife. They were married about 1866 and she died in 1883. He was known as a "lumber baron."
