Robert Jack Bowden Sr., 63, of Chincoteague Island, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center Salisbury, Md.
Jack was born in Chincoteague on Sept. 9, 1943, the son of the late Robert N. Bowden and Nancy (Watson) Williams who survives him of Chincoteague. He was a member of Union Baptist Church Chincoteague. He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl during the Vietnam War. He retired as the Facilities Manager from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service after 35 years of service. He was the District Deputy Grand Master 2006-2007 District 12. He served as Past Master of Accomack Lodge #243 AF & AM, Past High Priest of Royal Arch #75 of Chincoteague, Past Worthy Patron Accomack Chapter #62 Order of Eastern Star, Member of Island Commandery #34, and American Legion Post #1
He was the husband of Billie Ann (Shrieves) Bowden for 43 years. They were married on Sept. 5, 1964. Jack is survived by a son, Robert Jack Bowden Jr. and his wife Beverly of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Allan Bowden and his wife Joyce of Chincoteague Island; granddaughter, Samantha Bowden of Hampton; a sister-in-law, Marion Jean Adams and her husband Archie of Chincoteague; and several nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague, today, August 1, with Rev. Kevin Eley and Rev. Travis DeLoach officiating. Masonic Rites were held on Tuesday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m. at Salyer Funeral Home. Interment at Reynolds Cemetery Chincoteague.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church Benevolence Fund 6365 Church Street Chincoteague, VA 23336 or Accomack Lodge #243 Building Fund Woodland Drive Chincoteague, VA 23336.
