Obituary

Oren Foster Hawk was born in Putnam county, state of Missouri, June 25, 1856, and departed this life at Promise City, Iowa, March 30th, 1922, at the age of 65 years, 9 months and five days.

When a small boy he moved with his parents to a farm near Confidence, Iowa, and spent the most of his life in the same vicinity. Six years ago last fall he moved to Promise City, Iowa, which since has been home to him.

On August 16, 1891, the deceased was married to Julia Raurk, also of Confidence, Iowa. To this union two children were born; James who died at the age of 7 years and Mrs. Clara Lewis of southwest of Seymour, Iowa.

The deceased was one of a family of eight children born to Wm and Margaret Hawk, all of whom are living at this time. They are; James Hawk, of Iconium, Iowa; Mrs. Lydia Clark, of Plano, Ia.; Mrs. Ellen Rowe, of Elwood, Kans.; George Hawk and Mrs. M. M. Hart of Promise City, Iowa; John Hawk of Melrose, Iowa and Mrs. Laura Raurk of Elwood, Kans.

The deceased was one of the kindest hearted of men, a great favorite among the children of his neighborhood and the entire acquaintance join with the family in mourning the sudden death and the loss that is so keenly felt in the departure of the deceased.

A short service was conducted at the residence in Promise City from whence the procession went to the cemetery at Confidence where the funeral services were conducted by Wm R. Matsler of Promise City, Iowa. The deceased was laid to rest in the Confidence cemetery beside that of his son, who departed many years before.
