World War II Nazi German Figure. She was employed as the private secretary to Nazi German dictator Adolph Hitler from 1942 until his death by suicide in 1945. She joined Hitler in his underground bunker in Berlin in January 1945, and as the end neared in April 1945 she witnessed the deterioration of the dictator and the various members of his staff that resided there. She typed up Hitler's last will and testament shortly before he died. When the war ended she was held and interrogated by both the United States and Soviet Union. Eventually released, she resided in post-war Germany until her death. Her memoir of her experiences as Hitler's private secretary was published as "Until the Final Hour" shortly before she died. The critically acclaimed 2004 motion picture "Der Untergang" (Downfall) was based on her memoir.
