Henry J. Dietz, 97, Greeley, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Kenton Manor Health Care Center.
He was born Nov. 2, 1896, in Walter, Russia, to George and Helena (Gies) Dietz.
On Dec. 25, 1915, he married Katherine M. Alles at St. Paul's Congregational Church. She died Sept. 20, 1988.
Mr. Dietz came to the US with his family and in 1905 settled in Lincoln, Neb., where he attended schools. He came to Greeley in 1915. He farmed south of Greeley until 1939. He worked for United Airlines in Cheyenne as a security guard during World War II. He worked at Weld County General Hospital, now North Colorado Medical Center, in food service and in physical therapy. He retired from the hospital in the early 1970's.
He was a charter member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and served as president. He was a member and past president of Amico Club. He also was a former Gideon. He loved music and played the concertina. He also played the concertina with a church group. He was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church, where he was a member of the Brotherhood. He also served as Sunday school superintendent and worked with church youth groups for 35 years.
Survivors are 3 daughters; a sister, and a brother; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Two infant sons, a grandson, Jim Estrick, and two brothers, John and Dan, are deceased.
