Major League Baseball Player. Nicknamed "The Crow", he was a shortstop making his debut for the New York Yankees on April 12, 1932. For 17 seasons he played with the Yankees, (1932-48), finishing with 1541 hits, 1006 runs scored, 98 home runs, 649 runs batted in, .245 batting average and a .949 fielding percentage. He also was twice an All-Star (1936, 1939), American League stolen base leader (1938) and played on 8 New York Yankee World Series Championship teams. After his playing time, he became a third base coach for the New York Yankees for 20 years and took part in another 15 more World Series. He died at age 91 from complications of a fall.
