WILLIAMSBURG - John Russell Corbin, 55, died Sunday, Jan. 8, in Williamsburg Community Hospital.

He was born in Greene, N.Y., and had been a Peninsula resident for 21 years.

He was a member of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church.

He was the general manager of Howard Johnson Lodge since 1986.

He was the food and beverage manager in 1974 then was promoted to general manager in 1986 at Fort Magruder Inn & Conference Center. He was a director of special hotel activities at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation from 1967 until 1974.

He was a member of the Army Signal Corps from 1954 until 1957.

He was a member of Williamsburg Lions Club for 19 years and served four, two year terms on the board of directors. He was a member of the board of directors and past president of Occasion for the Arts. He was a board member and past president of the International Skal Club of Tidewater.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hammes Corbin; one daughter, Jean Marie Corbin of Richmond; one son, Michael John Corbin of Williamsburg; one sister, Helen C. Anderson of Ahoskie, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church by the Revs. Richard May and Cotesworth P. Lewis. Burial will be private.

Umphlett Funeral Home is in charge.
