July 27, 1923 to January 1, 2011 San Diego John A. McNamara died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. He was 87. Born July 27, 1923 in Oelwein, Iowa, he had been a long time resident of Vista and Oceanside prior to moving to San Diego. Mr. McNamara was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and Korea. He retired after 20 years service in 1961 at the rank of 1st Sgt. Following his military career, he worked in the civil service for 18 years. John was fun loving and very family oriented. Mr. McNamara was preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. McNamara and grandson, Russell Boulware. He is survived by his daughters Kathy McNamara of San Diego and Jackie McNamara of Port Macquarie, Australia. Survivors also include his grandchildren, Jason Pemberton of Ocean Beach, Kerri Lambert of Santee, Ryan Boulware of Branson, MO, great-grandchildren, Desiré, A.J. and Tommy, all of Santee, and favorite niece, Cheryl Minichilli of San Marcos and favorite nephew, Michael Durda of Ventura. A memorial mass will be celebrated Friday, January 21, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ascension Catholic Church, 11292 Claire-mont Mesa Blvd., San Diego, CA 92124. Private inurnment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Arrangements are under the direction of Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel
