Celinda Klopp was born 13 September 1860 at Orangeville, Illinois, to Daniel Benjamin and Anna Elizabeth (McHoes) Klopp. William and Celinda were members of the Methodist Church. Celinda was very religious. Her granddaughter, Vera Maurine McCurdy, remembered before dinner prayers while kneeling beside her chair during the year she lived with them in Two Harbors, Minnesota. She said the prayers seemed to go on for an hour (she was six). Celinda died 21 February 1932 at Omaha, Nebraska, where she was living with her daughter Claire.

William's sister Mary wrote of Celinda: "… a most exemplary girl of strong religious principles and utmost faith in an over ruling power. Some years before Father had written to me "The more I see of Willie's wife the better I like her. She is neat and industrious. In cooking a meal going from the stove to the table or pantry she usually walks about twice as fast as you and Lyra do." We found her patiently struggling over the culinary needs of her growing family, filling large 10 gallon jars with jam from the wild crab apple, grapes and plums, the only fruit then to be found in that undeveloped country. Celinda carried her amiable spirited husband along with her in the religious training of her numerous family, and their ten children grew up in the daily practice of a real, God fearing Christianity."

Celinda and William had eleven children, ten of whom grew to adulthood.
