He received National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, small arms expert marksmanship ribbon, basic security Police Qualification Badge, Air Force good conduct medal with one oak leaf cluster (May 17, 1975-May 16,1978) Emmett was a retired deputy from the Pike County Sheriff's Department. He retired from this position in 2000. He started as a dispatcher in December of 1979. Emmett also worked from 2001 to 2005 as a patrol officer in Pleasant Hill. Highlights of Emmett's career include numerous drug busts and helping hundreds of people though difficult times. His motto was, as far as law enforcement, to treat people the way he would want to be treated if the situation was reversed. A scholarship trust fund has been set up in honor of Emmett for law enforcement. Emmett was an avid outdoorsman. He was a big part of Carter's Hunting Lodge. He loved bow hunting, turkey hunting, and squirrel hunting. One of his greatest passions was taking the grandchildren out and teaching them the way of the woods. Emmett will be greatly missed this spring during turkey season. He also helped us with our logging and lumber operation. He had a Class A CDL and was an excellent truck driver. He helped his children and grandchildren along with everyone around him that he loved as much as he could. He was the best dad anyone could ever ask for. We never wanted or needed anything thanks to him. Survivors include: his wife, Kathleen R. Carter, three sons, Shawn Carter and wife Stacey (Shaw) Carter, Nathan Carter and wife Tammy and Guy McMahon all of rural Milton.
