*************************************

A Nebraska native, Gordon Lyle Young was the son of William Edward and Ada Mary (Black) Young and brother to Clifford.
Gordon was a member of ‘Dignity’, a national organization of gay Catholics; he being a convert to Catholicism as a result of his relationship with his partner, Richard Francis “Dick” Bevenour.

Gordon and Dick made a home together for nearly 25 years before his death from lung cancer in 1987, at the age of 48. Gordon is described as having been “loud and boisterous” where Dick was quiet and self effacing, Gordon was a wire services editor at the Fresno Bee and a prolific, (though not very focused) writer. Dick heartily endorsed Gordon as the intellectual torch bearer in their home, though Dick, through his faith and in his relationship with God, was movingly displayed in biblical exegeses published monthly in the ‘Dignity’ newsletter; using the nom de plume, Theordore Ursus.

Gordon’s and Dick’s strong intellects found a mutual outlet when they opened Gordick’s Books; the closest thing Fresno had to San Francisco’s "City Lights" and serving the literary needs of Fresno’s gay and lesbian community. The store closed following Gordon’s death.
