Actress. Out of a career that saw her in several dozen Swedish film features she shall probably be remembered for starring in 1967's controversial "I Am Curious (Yellow)". Starting in show business at an early age, Lena made her silver screen debut as Helen Thomasson in the 1955 "Farlight lofte". She was seen in "491" (1964) then got her major break as a girl named Lena in Vilgot Sjoman's "I Am Curious (Yellow)". Both Lena and the film attracted condemnation and hate-mail due to the scenes of nudity and simulated sex, but she still reprised her role for the 1968 sequel "I Am Curious (Blue)". For her work in the two movies she received a 1968 Swedish Film Institute Guldbagge Best Actress Award; continuing a steady list of stage, screen, and television credits, she appeared in "Release the Prisoners to Spring" (1975) and 1978's "The Adventures of Picasso". Lena earned praise for her portrayals of Liv Ullmann's disabled sister in Ingmar Bergman's 1978 "Autumn Sonata" as well Lovis in 1984's "Ronja Robbersdaughter". She received a 2004 Royal Medal of Arts and Letters and a 2006 Eugene O'Neill Award. Lena's final appearance came in the 2006 "Those Who Whisper"; she died following a long illness.
