In 1665, Etienne was one of eight men who volunteered to build a defensive outpost at the foot of Lachine Rapids. Land was granted to each of them and they cleared the land to support themselves. The eight men were called "Argoulets", in honour of the arquebusiers of the 16th century in France.
Etienne and Catherine had 15 children. Etienne's burial is unknown, it's assumed he died along the trails of the untamed lands of the region. Therefore he has been placed with ashes unknown.
