Thomas and Margaret Goff are my 5th Great Grandparents. My family tradition lists Thomas middle name as Jonas but it has also been listed as James. His headstone lists his name as Thomas J. Goff but it is believed that it was placed there many years after their death.

According to the book "The Four Goff Brothers of Western Virginia by Phillip G. Goff and Roy L. Lockhart" Thomas Goff married Margaret Gray 22 Dec 1778 at Christ Church Parish, Calvert, Maryland. She is the daughter of John and Ann "Broome" Gray.

Family tradition lists his wife as Margaret Parsons daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann "Rennick" Parsons from then Hampshire County, Virginia today Hardy County, West Virginia. Because of this Parsons is used as a middle name of several descendants.

It is believed that Thomas married Margaret Gray first and Margaret Parsons second. Two children were born around 1781 and the rest 1784 and later leading me to believe that Margaret Gray was the mother of the first two and Margaret Parsons the mother of the remainder of the children however I have seen no official documentation to confirm this.

I recommend that anyone researching the Goff family get a copy of the book mentioned which is very well documented.
