Epps Gibbons is my 5th Grt-Grandfather
through Susan Epps Gibbons Poteet, Wife of T.R.H. Poteet,who are my 4th Grt-Grandparents.

Served in : The East Tennessee Malitia of Volunteers of , The War of 1812, under a Captain William Gillenwaters .
( Note : Epps Gibbons the Son Of Thomas Gibbons III and Ann Epps Gibbons ; had a sister named Sally Gibbons who married a William Gillenwaters ).
Epps Gibbons was born in Hawkins County North Carolina ( Later became Tennessee ) , the youngest son of Thomas and Ann Epps Gibbons. He was married to Nancy Armstrong who was born in 1790, also in Hawkins County, Tennessee. They had ten children , as listed.
He was on the rolls of Overton County , Tennessee in 1830 , Madison County tax rolls in 1840 , but went to Texas in 1841 and was on the Lamar County , Texas tax rolls the rest of his life there . All of his children were born in Tennessee but came to Texas with their parents in 1841 .. at least , all ten
that were listed in his will.
Epps Gibbons was very successful in every business he had . He proved his character in many way , especially in going with Claiborne Chisum to bring the Little orphaned children of Robert Bell , their cousin , to Paris to live where they had relatives and could find happiness in-
stead of misery. He took John Bell to live with his children , and when John was old enough , he
sent to McKinsie College in Clarksville to be educated ; John died in College.
Claiborne Chisum took the two girls to his home because Mary Ann was 15 and Malinda
was a child , but not a baby. Claibornes wife had died a year after they came to Texas. Mary Ann Bell and Young Burgher married in 1844 while she lived at the Chisums home, and they established their own home in Lamar County.
William and James Bell had run away from their court appointed guardian, Judge Birdwell,
and had gone to Minden Louisiana to find work and visit their Aunt Betsy Scott McCalman ; they carried a mail route in Louisiana for three years ; then they were invited to come to Lamar County to live and be with the rest of the family. William Bell never left. James went to California, after marring.
