THOMAS, Rufus age 55, of Clayton, OH, departed this life unexpectedly on Sunday, January 30, 2011. He was a native of New York, N. Y. and resided in Dayton many yrs. He was a member of St. Mary's Evangelical Church, retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base Office of Public Affairs, retired from the U. S. Air Force and an honor graduate of Wright State University with a B. A. in Journalism. Rufus was a great advocate for individuals and was the Treasurer of American Federation of Government Employees (AFL-CIO) and a Veteran of the U. S. Air Force.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Mitchell-Thomas; mother, Laura Mae Thomas; (2) daughters, Tara Wall and Jessica Crutcher; (1) son, Charles (Jessica) Ingram; (3) grandchildren, Alexander Wall, Cameron Ingram and Jalen Watson; (4) brothers, Jimmy (Phyllis), Freddie, Oscar and Jose (Doris) Thomas; (2) sisters, Margie Thomas and Esther Jones; (3) brothers-in-law, Carl (Teresa), Robert (Frances) and David Mitchell; (1) sister-in-law, Debra Mitchell; special niece, Tameka David; special aunt, Dorothy "Sugalump" Williams; special cousin, Sakina "Peaches" Masud, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Home going services at NEW ZION MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 342 W. Second St., with Pastor Robert E. Mitchell, officiating. Final disposition: Cremation with burial at Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave.
