Chas. Markwad Passes Away-Charles Markwad died last Saturday evening at 7:30 in his 65th year, on the Barbazette farm a few miles southwest of the city. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church, Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Edker Burton, after which interment was made in Riverview cemetery, Miss Tillie Penner of Omaha, a granddaughter, was present at the funeral. Mr Charles Markwad, whose funeral was held at the Baptist Church Monday afternoon was born in Germany September 22, 1844. Came to the United States in 1876 and settled in Lake county, Illinois, From there, he with his family, consisting of wife and six children, removed to Red Willow County, Nebraska, twenty-three years age, where he resided until his death, February 13th. His wife and five children, August, Ernest, Charles, Mrs. Emma Redhouse and Mrs. Etta Pope, with a large circle of friends, are left to mourn their loss. Friday 19 February 1909

Charles Markwad. Was born in Germany, September 22, 1844. He came to the United States in 1876 and settled in Lake county, Illinois. In 1886 he moved to Frontier county and lived there until 1900 when he moved to this county. Last April he was taken sick and after a time went to Omaha for treatment, but while he got some relief for a time, there was no marked improvement, and he returned home since which time he grew gradually worse, and the complication of diseases resulting in dropsy which was the direct cause of his death on Saturday, February 13, 1909, at the age of 65 years. He is survived by his widow and five children three boys and two girls; Mrs. Emma Redhouse, of Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, who is here visiting; Mrs. Etta Pope, of Georgetown, Washington, who was unable to come on account of sickness; August; Ernest and Charles who live here. The deceased was a conscientious, upright man, a good father and loving husband, and the bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their affliction. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church Monday afternoon, Rev. E. Burton officiating. Friday 19 February 1909 (all written in papers given to me from family)
