Rube lived in Transylvania County all of his adult life. He first worked for his Father in Law, J.C. Orr, on the Cluff Farm. The farm is now Glenn Cannon Country Club. He then helped to build the Ecusta Plant and when it was completed he went to work as an employee. He retired from Ecusta about 1971.
