With her Quaker roots, Katherine spent her early years in Hendricks County, IN. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to Hancock County, IN and graduated from Mount Comfort High School. She was an alumna of Earlham College.
She was a licensed Ohio Funeral Director, who with her husband Stanley S. Denman owned and operated the Denman Funeral Home in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. On the death of her husband in 1973, she continued the business. However, after 42 years of community services, she sold the business and retired in 1985.
After moving to Indianapolis with her sister, Lois Woodward, she continued community service giving 13 years of volunteering to Community North Hospital. In 1995, she moved to the Marquette Manor Retirement Home.
Mrs. Denman's interests included genealogy, music (playing organ and piano), travel (touring 6 continents), current events and family. Facing oral cancer in her 100th year with courage and dignity, Auntie Kay was an inspiration for over a century.
Katherine is survived by her sister, Lois Woodward of Indianapolis; 5 nieces and nephews, Lowell W. (Karen) Merryman of Winter Haven, FL, Don E. Merryman of Syracuse, IN, Rolene (John) Popp of Fort Wayne, IN, Linda (Donn) Baird of Syracuse, IN, and Joe (Jo Ann) Woodward of Fort Wayne, IN; 13 grand nieces and nephews, 25 great grand nieces and nephews, and 2 great great grand nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Worth E. and Mary Blair Woodward; her spouse, Stanley S. Denman; her brother, Maurice B. (Catherine) Woodward; her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Dr. K.K.) Merryman; and her niece-in-law, Carolyn Merryman.
