Mrs. Charles Leuthold Dies Thursday
Mrs. Charles Leuthold, 824 Elm Avenue East, died Thursday noon at her home after an illness of several months. She was 89 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the Pfaff Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Woodville cemetery.
Mrs. Leuthold was born December 20, 1868, the daughter of Stephen H. Preston, pioneer Waseca druggist. She graduated from Waseca public schools, and the Iowa City Academy training school in elocution. She taught elocution at the Chicago College of Vocal and Instrumental Art, and as Miss “Josie” Preston gave many readings and recitals at churches, halls, and clubs, including the local Ward’s opera house.
She was married October 30, 1894 to Charles Leuthold, prominent southern Minnesota clothier. They traveled extensively abroad up to the time of Mr. Leuthold’s death in November 1928. Mrs. Leuthold continued her travels up until recently and gave many talks to various clubs and organizations.
Mrs. Leuthold was a charter member of the King’s Daughters, Monday Study Club, and the Lakeside Club. She was a life-long member of the First Congregational church, and a member of the Owatonna chapter of the D. A. R.
She is survived by four children: Miss Dorothy Leuthold of New York City, Mrs. Ruth Joy Ward, Waseca, Mrs. Finette Love, Minneapolis, and Jack P. Leuthold, Waseca. One brother, L. F. Preston, Waseca, two grandchildren, Miss John Love, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Richard Magnuson of St. Paul; three great grandchildren, Mare, Scot, and Finette Magnuson of St. Paul, also survive.
Pall bearers for Mrs. Leuthold will be Paul Stucky, Donald Day, Marvin Johnson, F. Martin Senn, LeRoy Tyrholm and Anton Stucky of Waterville.
