He was a 1938 graduate of Virginia Tech and attained the rank of captain in the Army Air Corp during World War II, during which time he was a navigator aboard B17 and B29 aircraft.
His career included 30 years at NSWC, where he designed aircraft crew escape systems and then several years as a senior engineer with Virginia Power, where he worked with combustion turbines.
Survivors include his wife, Pepi Green; two sons, Champe Green of New Mexico and Dillard Green of Richmond; three stepchildren, Cynthia Garrett of Richmond, George W. Eakin II of Texas and Elisa Eakin of Richmond; a sister, Anne Garland Sheaffer of Iowa; and six grandchildren, Carter and Katie Green, Ashley, Amber and Christina Garrett and Lauren Eakin. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Dillard Green and a son, Francis Cary Green Jr.
