Services for Bennis E. Franks, 88, of Diboll were held Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Franks was born June 29, 1914 in Stockman to the late Florence Augusta (Echols) and Thomas Smith Franks and died Sunday, Sept. 22 in a local hospital. He received his master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University where he was an All Conference basketball player and served as captain of the 1940-41 team. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U S Army during World War II. He lived in Diboll since 1948, and was a long-time educator for the Diboll ISD, having taught there for 32 years. A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Diboll, he sang in the choir for over 50 years.

Survivors: wife of 55 years, Opal Franks of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Suzane and Charles H. Warlick of Nacogdoches; son, Bennis E. "Eck" Franks Jr. of Lufkin; grandchildren, Catherine and Caroline Warlick of Nacogdoches and Brady and Brandon Franks of Lufkin; sister, Rita Ramsey of Diboll; and numerous nieces and nephews.
