Daisy Jean Olson, age 87, Grand Rapids, MN passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at Grand Itasca Hospital surrounded by her family.
Daisy was born September 21, 1923 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Ben Sr. and Marion (Rudolph) Peoples. She grew up there and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1941. She was a graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, MN as a Registered Nurse. She married Leslie T. Olson October 15, 1945 at Fitzsimons Army Base in Denver, Colorado. After they both completed their college educations, they moved to Canby, MN where Les started his dental practice. They were longtime residents in Ortonville MN and members at First English Lutheran Church there. Upon retirement, they moved to Waite Park and then to Grand Rapids in 1994. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids and participated in the quilting group. She enjoyed outdoor recreation, golf and was an avid sports enthusiast for all levels of sports. She loved to do cross stitch and hardanger projects. Most recently, she was a resident at Grand Village in Grand Rapids where she enjoyed many friends and activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie in 2006 and her brother Ben Jr.
She is survived by 3 sons Doug (Karen Kuchera) in Minneapolis, MN, Barry (Angela) in Grand Rapids, MN, and David (Elizabeth) in Waterford, PA; 5 grandchildren, Kristopher (Valerie), Matthew (Breanna), Bryan, Eric, Sonya; 1 great-grandson, Weston; 2 sisters, Betty Carlson in Eugene, OR and Emma Capps in Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until the 12 Noon Memorial Service in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, MN. Rev. George B. Gilbertson and Rev. Megan C. Crouch will officiate.
Burial will be in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN at a later date.
