Matheny, Delbert Collins Sr - Graveside services for Delbert Matheny, Sr., age 78, of Lenox, who died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Platteville Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox from 3 to 7 with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 and again on Thursday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 when we will leave for the cemetery together. Memorials may be given in Delbert's name. Memories can be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Delbert Collins Matheny, Sr., was born September 13, 1932, the son of Paul Collins Matheny and Margaret Fernetta (Tamerius) Matheny in Platteville, Iowa. He grew up in Taylor County, leaving home as a young teenager, where he traveled to California. He served in the United States Navy. Delbert married Electa Randall. He traveled around the country working various jobs, settling back in southwest Iowa. He married Patricia Green and the couple lived in Council Bluffs where they raised their family. He later married Linda South in 1994, and the couple resided in Lenox until the time of his death. He was a member of the Lenox Presbyterian Church.

Delbert loved the outdoors where he hunted, fished and camped. He enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his four dogs. He was a people person who knew no stranger, however, his family was his passion always having a joke to share or was giving someone a hard time!

Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend are his loving wife Linda Matheny of Lenox; his six children David Raygar and wife Suzi of Riverside, California; Cheryl Pascone and husband Tony of Henderson, Nevada; Randy Matheny of Shenandoah; Delbert Matheny, Jr., and wife Twyla of Council Bluffs; Jim Matheny and wife Epsy of Crescent; and Debbie Gerjevic and husband Paul of Council Bluffs; seven step-children, Mike and Robin Peterson of Paxton, Nebraska; Lisa Meyer and Joe of Red Oak; Jackie Peterson and Jeff of Algona; Terri and Jack Brandon of Lenox; Marlena Soderquist and Jason of Truman, Minnesota; Charlie Peterson of King City, Missouri and Jodie Peterson and John of Clarinda; two brothers, Paul Matheny of Bedford and Ronald Matheny of Albany, Missouri; a sister, Mardell Straight of Albany, Missouri; grandchildren, Troy, Jay, Justin, Jessica and Paul; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, all of Council Bluffs; along with numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren from California, Nevada and Iowa.

Preceding Delbert in death are his parents Paul and Margaret; two sons, Paul and Randy; and two sisters Deloris and Isabell
