G. BROOKS MORGAN JR.
SUNBURY - George Brooks Morgan Jr., 81, of Orchard Street, died July 30, 2001.
Mr. Morgan was born in Gates County. The son of the late George Brooks Sr. and Beulah Hunter Morgan, he had retired from Kimnach Ford in Norfolk after more than 40 years of employment as a sales representative and had formerly served as its sales manager. More recently Mr. Morgan had been with Town and Country Ford in Sunbury. Through his long career he had received many sales achievement awards.
He attended Mars Hill College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served his country with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of World War II. A member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church, he had served his church as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and in other various capacities. A member of VFW Post No. 7312 and a Paul Harris Fellow, Mr. Morgan was a former Boy Scout leader and a former member of the Sunbury Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Sue Payne Morgan; two daughters, Susan Morgan Smith of Jamestown, N.C., and Brooks Morgan Westerhoff and her husband, David Owen Westerhoff, of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Morgan Kneebone of State College, Pa., and Brownie Morgan Herbin of Murfreesboro, N.C.; a brother, W. Hunter Morgan of Sunbury; and three grandchildren, R. Blaine Smith Jr. of Jamestown, Jennifer Brooks Smith of Raleigh, and Morgan Mary Westerhoff of Greensboro. He was predeceased by a sister, Parker Morgan Askew and a brother, Costen Stokes Morgan.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
