Andrew Owens Passes Away at Home in Bluffton
Andrew J. Owens, 83, dean of the Allen-co bar, and one of the oldest lawyers in Allen-co, died from general debility at his home in Bluffton, Thursday.
He was admitted to the bar in July, 1863, and has practiced law in Allen-co for 59 years.
His wife died six months ago at the age of 79.
He is survived by six children, four sons, Dr. Otto Owens, Kalida, and Joseph Owens, Bluffton, and four daughters, Mrs. Agatha Ostendorf, Delphos, Mrs. Mary Pleasant, Bluffton, Mrs. Zenobia Esely, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Hortense Lowery, 202 E. Kibby-st.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. central standard time, from St. Mary's Catholic church at Bluffton. The Rev. Father Crosby of St. Gerard's church, Lima, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery.
A committee representing the Allen County Bar Association will attend the funeral. Many other members of the local bar are arranging also to attend the funeral. Any members who have not already signified their intention of going are asked to notify Ralph P. Mackenzie, president, or Chester M. Cable, secretary.
