During WWII, she worked in an airplane factory as a Riverter in Wichita, KS. After that she was on the Eagles Auxiliary Marching Drill Team.
For many years, Lugarda and her husband, Orpheus were the owners and operators of "Nelson's Bar" in Superior until her retirement 23 years ago. She attended WITC in the accounting department prior to owning the bar. Lugarda was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Elks.
Sshe was preceded in death by her husband, Orpheus, on June 17, 1993; two brothers, Michael and Paul Steffan; and two sisters, Mary and Caroline.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Sally) of Superior and Gary (Debby Smith) of Solon Springs; one daughter, Linda Nelson, Grand Rapids, MI; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Peter, Nick and Tom Steffan; three sisters, Rose Lindorff, Ann Jones and Josephine Johnson.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in the spring.
