Alexander Mattson, known as "Alex" by his host of friends, resident of Paddock township, passed away at Wesley hospital in Wadena March 26, at 9:30 a. m. after an illness of nearly four months. He was a patient at the hospital for nearly four weeks.
Mr. Mattson was born in Kannus, Vaasan Laani, Finland, on May 18, 1865, being 82 years, 10 months and 8 days of age at the time of his death. He was married to Lizzie Pahkala on August 14, 1887. To this union fifteen children were born, eight of whom are living. He came to America in the year 1888, settling first in Isheming, Michigan, coming to this vicinity about 55 years ago, residing on his farm in Paddock township until his death.
Leaving to mourn are his wife, Lizzie, and six daughters, Mrs. Lewis Lindula (Wilma) of Sebeka; Mrs. Edward Aho (Hannah) of Keewatin, Minnesota; Mrs. Edna Kokkonen of Longview, Washington; Mrs. Richard Aho (Sandra) of Sebeka; Mrs. Alvin Hofner (Florence) of Duluth, Minnesota; Mrs. Walfred Waaraniemi (Melba) of Sebeka; and two sons, William Mattson of Clatskanie, Oregon, and Andrew Mattson of Superior, Wisconsin. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one nephew, William Lee, of Sebeka.
Funeral services for this respected pioneer citizen were held Wednesday afternoon at the Sebeka Apostolic Lutheran church with Rev. Alajoki of Menahga and Rev. Heitaman of Calumet, Michigan conducting the services. Burial was made in the Hay Creek cemetery.
