She was born on March 31, 1932, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Glendon Orville Grandstaff and Anna Eliza Fox Grandstaff.
Roberta worked in the pressing department at Blue Bell (now VF Corporation) for 10 years and was a member of the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church.
On Sept. 12, 1949, she married Neal E. Hilliard, who died on Feb. 2, 2011.
She is survived by five sons, Eddie Hilliard and wife Connie, Don Hilliard and wife Bernette, and Neal Eugene Hilliard Jr., all of Luray, Gary Lee Hilliard and wife Mary Jane of Rileyville, and Michael Wayne Hilliard and wife Kandy of Stanley; four brothers, Lynn Grandstaff of Richmond, and Carroll T., William A. “Billy” and Glendon O. Grandstaff Jr., all of Luray; two sisters, Charlotte Gochenour of Luray, and Wanda Ricker of Stephens City; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Hilliard; two brothers, Waldo F. and Robert K. “Bobby” Grandstaff; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church by Pastor Mike Nichols. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
The family was to receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at the Bradley Funeral Home. (Paid Obituary)
