A native of Jamestown, he was born April 27, 1938, a son of Gerald J. Corkery and Mary Josephine "Jo" Straughen Corkery.
He was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Gannon College.
Jerry was a 40-plus-year employee of the railroad, beginning his career with the Erie-Lackawanna in Jamestown. Through his railroad career he held various positions including Yard Master for Conrail in Jamestown, and retiring from the NCSC Division of CSX in Pittsburgh in 2000.
While living in Jamestown he was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
His Irish eyes were always smiling whenever he was with family and friends. He enjoyed the simple things in life: the changing of the seasons, a family gathering or going to church. He loved his wife Kay, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed every day. His love and concern for the less fortunate is a legacy he leaves for his survivors. Saint Susan's center was among one of his favorite charities.
Surviving are his wife Catherine "Kay" Benoit Corkery, whom he married June 19, 1965; three children: Karry Y. (Don) Camp of Erie, Pa., Todd E. Corkery of Jamestown and Kevin L. (Sarah) Corkery of West Oneonta, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren: Dylan C. Camp and Megan C. Camp of Erie, Pa., Toby J. Corkery, Shane E. Corkery, Jared M. Corkery of Olean, Maren O. Corkery, Colette E. Corkery Grace M. Corkery, Karoline R. Corkey and Frances C. Corkery of West Oneonta.
