Catherine (Malone) Brown died in Salina after becoming ill at her home in Smolan. She had lived in Smolan about 17 years and was a member of the Roman Catholic church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Brown, in 1948.

Survivors included four sons, John, Bernard, Michael and Leo Brown;
two daughters, Mrs. Betty Lindholm and Mrs. Edna Haberman; three brothers, John. Mathew and William Malone; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, Mrs. Alice Boy and Mrs. Josephine Snider; and seven grandchildren.
